Bioremediation
Bioremediation uses microorganisms and/or enzymes to cut the pollution potential of industrial effluents such as food-industry wastewater, converting them to less hazardous forms. It can also be used to generate biomass and biogas, turning treatment into resource recovery rather than pure cost. Beyond the factory fence, the same principles clean contaminated soils and waters, though food processors apply it mainly to high-strength organic effluents from dairies, breweries, and slaughterhouses. Well-designed biological treatment protects receiving waters, meets discharge permits, and increasingly recovers energy and nutrients, making bioremediation a cornerstone of sustainable food manufacturing.
