Bamboo
Bamboo describes tall, tree-like grasses with hollow woody stems and edible young shoots. Hugely important economically across much of Asia, the same fast-growing plant supplies construction material, paper, crafts and food. Species utilized for bamboo shoots include those in the Bambusa, Phyllostachys, and Dendrocalamus genera, harvested young before the shoots turn woody and fibrous. As one of the fastest-growing plants on Earth, bamboo is also explored as a sustainable source of fibre, extracts, and packaging materials for food use, embodying a renewable resource that serves construction, cuisine, and industry simultaneously.
