Aluminium
A light metal, chemical symbol Al, used in food packaging and food-processing equipment — from foil and cans to cookware and machinery. It occurs in the trace-element fraction of the diet, and there is no known nutritional requirement for it. Concern exists that excessive intake may be toxic, so dietary exposure is monitored, particularly from additives, leaching into acidic or salty foods, and water treatment residues. Aluminium’s story in food is one of utility managed by limits: an unmatched packaging metal kept safe through migration standards and intake assessment.
