Wreckfish

Polyprion americanus of the family Polyprionidae, the wreckfish, is a marine species of minor commercial importance. It ranges through the Atlantic Ocean, the western Indian Ocean, and the southwest Pacific, usually around wrecks, reefs, and deep rocky ground — the habitat behind its name. Where caught it is marketed fresh, frozen, or cooked in various ways, valued for firm white flesh that grills and bakes well. Deep-water fish grow slowly and mature late, so managers watch catches to prevent local populations being fished out. Its minor status means it mostly arrives as bycatch or from artisanal boats rather than as a target of industrial fleets.
