Spiramycin
Spiramycin is a macrolide antibiotic from Streptomyces ambofaciens, used to treat and control various bacterial and mycoplasmal infections in animals. After gut absorption it spreads widely through tissues, but it is normally excreted rapidly, which limits how long residues persist. Its use is subject to veterinary prescription and defined withdrawal periods before slaughter or milking, and residues in meat and milk are monitored against maximum limits under food-safety regulations. Responsible use, respecting dose and withdrawal, is part of managing antimicrobial resistance as well as residues.
