Shaddocks
Shaddock is an alternative name for the pomelo, also called pummelo or Chinese grapefruit, the largest citrus fruit, with thick rind and sweet-tart segmented flesh. An ancestor of the modern grapefruit, it is eaten fresh and used in salads and desserts across Southeast Asia. Its name honours Captain Shaddock, who reportedly brought its seeds to the Caribbean. The fruit’s size and mild sweetness make it a festive favourite. It is refreshing and not too tart. Try it in a Thai-style salad.
