Scald
Scald is a necrotic condition in which plant tissues, including fruits, look as though exposed to excessive heat, sunlight, or standing water. Affected fruits, mainly apples, develop dry, brown patches on the skin, though internal quality is usually unchanged. It is a storage and handling disorder rather than a disease, and affected fruit remains edible. Orchardists reduce it through careful irrigation, sun protection, and prompt, gentle post-harvest handling. It is distinct from sunburn and from pathogenic rots. Good orchard management keeps losses low.
