Pummelos
Another name for the pomelo or shaddock, the heavyweight of the citrus family from Citrus maxima, ancestor of the grapefruit. The resemblance to grapefruit is strong, but the flesh runs sweeter, milder, and free of bitterness, while still delivering abundant vitamin C and potassium. It is eaten fresh in segments or cooked into marmalades across Asia. The same cautions about grapefruit-drug interactions apply in milder form, and thick-rinded fruit keeps well, extending its season far beyond harvest. Its thick rind protects the fruit well during transport and storage.
