Predictive modelling
The use of simplified and generalized representations of phenomena to forecast how certain factors will influence events. In food science, models predict microbial behavior, heat transfer during processing, drying kinetics, and quality changes during storage, allowing developers to design safer processes and optimize formulations before full-scale trials. Good modeling combines theory with experimental data and states its assumptions and limits clearly. While models save time and cost, they never replace verification: predictions must be confirmed with real measurements on the actual product and process before being used for safety decisions.
