Liposcelis is a genus of tiny booklice (psocids, family Liposcelididae) common as pests in cereal stores, mills and food factories in hot, humid areas. They feed on grain, oilseeds, pulses, dried fruit and starchy residues — and on moulds growing on damp commodities — and in large numbers cause heating, moisture migration and contamination of grain that damages its quality, value and processing performance. They also infest food factories, warehouses and homes where conditions suit them, signalling dampness; moisture control (grain below ~13%), stock rotation, cleaning of residues and targeted insecticide or heat treatment keep them out.
