Lime berries are small, reddish, citrus-like fruits of Triphasia trifolia (syn. T. aurantiola), also known as limau kiah — a thorny shrub of the Rutaceae family native to Southeast Asia. About the size of a cherry, they are eaten fresh or used in preserves, jellies and drinks in their native regions, with a tart, aromatic, lime-like flavour. Like other minor citrus relatives, they contribute vitamin C, flavonoids and aromatic oils to local diets. They are highly perishable once ripe and best consumed or processed promptly; cultivated and wild fruit should come from unsprayed, uncontaminated sites.
