The fruits of Artocarpus heterophyllus (A. integrifolia), a tree related to breadfruit and figs; its fruits rank among the largest cultivated, weighing up to 100 pounds and sometimes exceeding a metre in length; ripe ones are eaten raw, while green ones are cooked with flesh and seeds, often in curries; also called jack fruits, they are a cornerstone food across tropical Asia, valued for their sweet aromatic pulp, versatile green flesh, and nutritious seeds. The seeds, boiled or roasted, are nutritious and taste like chestnuts.
