Goats
Hardy, mainly domesticated ruminants of the genus Capra are goats, close kin of sheep and kept worldwide as sources of milk, meat, hair and hides. They thrive on rough forage where cattle struggle, which makes them the dairy animal of arid regions. Farm vocabulary sorts them precisely: adult entire males are bucks or billies, adult females are does or ewes, and the young are kids. Their browsing habit shapes landscapes, for better and for worse. Fibre breeds supply mohair and cashmere to the textile trade.
