A non-systemic insecticide with cholinesterase-inhibiting activity, used against sucking, boring and chewing insects on fruits, vegetables and cereals, and for insect control in animal housing and stored cereals; WHO classes it as moderately toxic (class II). Residues in food are regulated. It was widely used in grain-store and locust-control campaigns, where its cholinesterase inhibition posed operator risks managed through protective equipment and re-entry intervals. Environmental persistence is moderate, but aquatic toxicity is high, restricting use near waterways; many countries have replaced it with less hazardous alternatives.
