Endosulfan
A non-systemic insecticide and acaricide once used against chewing, boring and sucking insects and mites on fruit, vegetable, cereal, coffee and tea crops. The WHO rated it moderately hazardous (class II); it was also sold under the name thiodan. It has been widely banned or restricted because of environmental persistence and toxicity. As a persistent organochlorine, it bioaccumulates in fatty tissues and biomagnifies through food chains, with documented poisoning of farm workers and contamination of waterways. The Stockholm Convention listed it for global elimination, and monitoring programmes still test tea, vegetables and fish from regions where obsolete stocks may linger.
