Cyclamates
Cyclamates are salts of cyclohexanesulfamic acid, synthetic high-intensity sweeteners roughly 30 to 50 times sweeter than sucrose, used in tabletop sweeteners, soft drinks and low-calorie foods in many countries. They are heat-stable and blend well with other sweeteners to improve taste profile. Regulatory status varies: permitted with maximum levels in the EU and many other regions, but banned in the United States since 1969 over unresolved safety questions. Labels must declare them, and acceptable daily intakes govern their use in permitted markets.
