Citrus fruits
Citrus fruits are the edible fruits of the genus Citrus, including oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits, mandarins, and pomelos. Valued for vitamin C, refreshing acidity, and aromatic peel oils, they are eaten fresh, juiced, and processed into marmalades, concentrates, and flavourings. Peel, pulp, and juice each have industrial uses, from pectin extraction to essential-oil production. Post-harvest handling focuses on decay control, waxing, and cold storage calibrated to avoid chilling injury, since many citrus varieties are damaged by temperatures that other fruits tolerate easily.
