Chlordane
Chlordane is a non-systemic organochlorine insecticide that was once sprayed widely against insect pests in crops, soils, factories, and homes. Like its organochlorine cousins it lingers in the environment and accumulates in fatty tissues, which is why its use has collapsed to rare, restricted applications. The World Health Organization classes it as moderately toxic (WHO Class II). For the food industry its relevance is legacy contamination: old residues can still turn up in soils and in fatty animal products, so monitoring programs keep watch long after the sprayers were retired.
