Captafol is a non-systemic fungicide used for control of a wide range of fungal diseases in fruits, vegetables and cereals. Example uses include control of scab in apples and pears, control of early and late blights in potatoes, and control of celery leaf spot. It normally degrades rapidly in animals and plants, with phthalic acid and ammonia commonly formed as hydrolysis products. It is classified by the WHO as extremely hazardous, class Ia, and its use is banned or severely restricted in many countries because of toxicological concerns.
