Biogas
Biogas is the fuel gas mixture from anaerobic digestion of organic wastes: mostly methane plus carbon dioxide, with small amounts of hydrogen, nitrogen and water vapour. It arises from bioremediation of many food-processing wastes, from peelings and whey to effluent sludge, turning a waste-disposal cost into renewable heat and power for the factory. Anaerobic digesters require balanced feeding, temperature control, and management of inhibitory substances, but well-run systems cut energy bills and carbon footprints simultaneously. Upgrading biogas to biomethane allows injection into gas grids, extending its value beyond the factory fence.
