alimentary
Relating to food, nutrition, or the nourishment of the body, a formal adjective used in phrases such as alimentary needs or alimentary law. Its most familiar appearance is in the alimentary canal, the continuous tube through which food travels, but the word applies broadly to anything concerned with feeding: alimentary policies govern food supply, and alimentary deficiencies describe malnutrition. The term carries a slightly technical or legal flavor in modern English, surviving mainly in medicine, food legislation, and historical texts. Its Latin root, alimentum, meaning nourishment, also gives us alimentation. While everyday language prefers food or nutritional, alimentary persists where precision matters, distinguishing matters of nourishment from other bodily or commercial concerns with a single exact word.
