Rice weevils
Rice weevils, Sitophilus oryzae, are serious pests of stored grain and seeds. The larvae develop inside whole grain kernels with no external evidence of their presence, so infestations often go unnoticed until damage is advanced. Infested whole grains or seeds, such as popcorn or beans, can carry them into homes. Grain stores control them through sanitation, cool and dry storage, stock rotation, and, where permitted, fumigation or controlled atmospheres, since weevil damage causes weight loss, contamination, and heating of the grain mass.
