N-Lite D is the trade name for a waxy corn maltodextrin marketed as a fat substitute, used particularly in ice cream and other dairy products. Made by controlled hydrolysis of waxy maize starch, it is a bland, soluble dextrin that mimics the creamy mouthfeel and body of fat while contributing far fewer calories. In reduced-fat frozen desserts it helps maintain smooth texture, controls ice-crystal growth, and supports overrun, compensating for the structural role that milk fat normally plays. As a starch-derived ingredient it is labelled as maltodextrin, and formulators balance its level against sweetness, freezing behaviour, and the clean-label expectations of the target product.
