Alcohol free beverages
Beverages of types normally containing ethanol that have been formulated or processed to be free from it — typically no more than 0.5% alcohol by volume in most jurisdictions. Production removes alcohol by vacuum distillation, reverse osmosis or arrested fermentation while trying to preserve flavour, or builds the drink without fermentation at all. The category serves health-conscious drinkers, designated drivers and those avoiding alcohol for religious or medical reasons. Labelling rules and the exact legal threshold vary by country, so ‘alcohol free’ on one market’s shelf may differ from another’s.
